Neighborhood Legal Services Holds Free Walk-In Legal Services Clinic at Butler Office

For individuals facing legal barriers to employment and housing, Neighborhood Legal Services, an organization that provides free civil legal services, will host a free legal clinic at its Butler office for services related to Expungements, Record Sealing, and Pardons.

The FREE walk-in legal clinic will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS) office is located at Holly Pointe Building, 220 South Main Street, Suite 306 in Butler, PA.

Interested Individuals can contact NLS to register in advance at nlsa.us/request-legal-help/ or by phone at 1-866-761-6572.  Preregistration is recommended but not required and walk-ins are welcome.

This legal clinic is a joint project with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, for trained law students supervised by Butler County attorneys and NLS staff attorneys to provide free legal services to some of the most vulnerable people in Butler County, especially veterans.  This is the third year in a row that this clinic is offered by NLS and the Pitt Law School, and the first time offered in Butler County.  Law students are trained by staff attorneys from NLS and their community partners.

“For individuals who have stabilized their lives or made a mistake in the past but face challenges when it comes to employment or housing, having criminal records sealed or expunged or receiving a pardon can make a huge difference,” said Judy Hale, Pro Bono Manager for NLS.  “Access to professional legal help can make for more equitable and better outcomes, allowing courts to help get clients pointed in the right direction,” she added.

The Butler County Bar Association is collaborating with NLS, and hosting a training for attorneys on Expungements, Record Sealing, and Pardons to support attorneys interested in volunteering at this clinic. Interested attorneys can contact the BCBA directly for additional information about its Continuing Legal Education Seminar.
