Elder Law Issues

old_lady_handsNLSA  receives funding from the Allegheny County Department of Human Services/Area Agency on Aging to provide legal services to Allegheny County residents who are 60 years of age or older. Services can be accessed by calling specified senior sites to schedule an appointment to meet with an attorney.

Legal services are provided regardless of income although the level of some services may be limited to advice or limited services as opposed to extended representation due to limited funding and staffing. Additional legal services, not otherwise provided by the program, are also provided. Services include Powers of Attorney, Advanced Directives, living wills, bankruptcy, family law, consumer advice, credit card defense, employment law, housing issues, public benefits, and health law. Allegheny County also offers a Senior Resource Guide.

We receive no special funding for Beaver, Butler, or Lawrence Counties. As such, seniors must fit within regular program guidelines and case services. Here are links to other resources in those counties:
