An agreement between the House and Senate would reduce the FY 2012 budget for the Legal Services Corporation by 13.9 percent overall, and the basic field grant budget by 14.8 percent.

NLSA and CJP reach settlement with HACP
The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh has agreed to provide a grievance hearing to applicants who have been denied public housing pursuant to a consent order entered on June 2, 2011, in a federal lawsuit filed by NLSA and the Community Justice Project. NLSA receives NEA Grant
Neighborhood Legal Services Association has received a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts"to support a public art project by Roxane Permar, and related community workshops. Permar will give public lectures and lead workshops for members of community organizations, during which she will hear their concepts of "the art of justice" and collect items to include in her piece, which will be created during a six-week residency at Pittsburgh Glass Center and be on public display at Neighborhood Legal Services Association's main office building."

Jessie W. Edison, Client Advocate and current NLSA Board Member, has been selected to receive a 2011 Excellence Award from the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network. "I-CAN! E-File Hits New High in Tax Refunds to Low-Income Americans"
A free electronic tax filing system, launched with funding from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) eight years ago, has grown to include 560 partners in 49 states helping low-income workers apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This year, with about six weeks to go before the April 18 deadline for filing tax returns, the free system, called I-CAN! E-File, has processed more than $110 million in EITC refunds and tax credits.
